MCS 333 - Writing for Social Justice: Allegory and the Public Humanities3 credits An individual story can, under certain circumstances, speak for an entire community or movement. This course explores allegory –a powerful form of storytelling that only emerges during times of emotional or spiritual crises. While allegory has roots in ancient traditions, it forcefully reappears in our globalized world, offering innovative ways to address social, political, and environmental challenges. By studying influential allegorists from the modern and postmodern eras, we will examine how writers use stories to inspire change and connect personal experiences to collective struggles, in hopes of understanding what, in today’s world, relates the writer to the rioter. Prerequisite(s): ENG 100 or ENG 101
