MCS 307 - From Dawnland to Dirigo: Representing Maine3 credits This course explores the shifting representations of Maine through literature, art, media, and public memory. Focusing on Aroostook County and its unique place in Maine’s story, students will examine how images, narratives, and cultural artifacts have shaped and reflected the region’s environment, peoples, and economy over time. We will consider diverse perspectives, including those of the Wabanaki Confederacy, Acadian and Franco-American settlers, and more recent communities, to understand how representations of Maine have influenced social and environmental realities, and how local activities and identities, in turn, have shaped the state’s image. Prerequisite(s): ENG 100 or ENG 101
