EDU 153 - Social Foundations of Education in a Diverse World

3 credits
A study of the social, cultural, political, philosophical, economic, and legal foundations of contemporary education. This course is an examination of diversity, equity, inclusion, multicultural education, and social justice within an education context, and also explores educational trends, policies, and programs. Areas of study include socioeconomic impact, school laws, English Language Learners, governance of schools, reform, educational ideologies, and development of an educational philosophy. This course requires the completion of a semester-long 20-hour clinical field experience.
