The Media and Cultural Studies minor provides students from all disciplines with a critical foundation in media analysis, media production, and cultural awareness. Through balancing core courses with flexible electives, the minor prepares students for dynamic career paths that value interdisciplinary problem-solving and fosters critical thinking about the societal impact of media technologies. Students gain hands-on experience in media production while also developing robust skills in media literacy and contextual understanding. This minor supports both academic and professional development in media analysis and production, making it a valuable and relevant complement to any major.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the minor, graduates will be able to:

1) Critically analyze the ways media texts and practices construct and reflect cultural identities using foundational theories of media and culture.

2) Apply foundational techniques in media writing and production to develop clear, effective, and ethical communication tailored to diverse audiences and purposes.

3) Identify and articulate the relationships between media practices, the environment, and society, demonstrating an understanding of the ethical, cultural, and ecological dimensions of media in global and local contexts.

*NOTE: The Media and Cultural Studies Minor is replacing the previous Professional Communication Minor
