EDU 166 - Conceptual Mathematics for Elementary Teachers Part 13 credits MAT 166
This course is designed to explore mathematics through a conceptual lens that involves modeling, hands on activities, and problem-solving; this approach can mitigate the math anxiety that is often a barrier. Students will engage in collaborative research and reflection in addition to the conceptual understanding, procedural skill/fluency, and ability to apply math to solve problems. The course focuses on understanding the mathematical concepts necessary for daily life, and to apply mathematics as circumstances arise at home, school, or the workplace. Concepts include problem-solving, reasoning and logic, numeration systems, number theory, geometry, algebra, statistics and probability, data analysis, integers, and operations with rational numbers.
