MCS 260 - The Poetics and Politics of Space: The Country and the City

3 credits
In media, literature, film, philosophy, history, and most disciplines, the environment is often understood as the background where people do stuff: explore, eat, write, travel, work, shop. However, environment, like other forms of media, exerts a powerful influence on us. This course will introduce interdisciplinary approaches to media and culture by exploring the ways urban and natural environments must be understood not as a passive setting, but as an active relationship creating and preventing particular activities, identities, and communities.
