Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community Certification (MHRT/C)

The Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community (MHRT/C) certificate meets the MaineCare “other qualified mental health professional” requirement for providing specific services to adults. Those services include community integration, intensive case management, assertive community treatment, skills development, day support services and family psycho‐education. The MHRT/C certification program is competency-based, enabling those with a variety of backgrounds who have appropriate education, work experience and training to earn certification. Individuals planning to provide community support services in positions funded by the Department of Health and Human Services and MaineCare (formerly Medicaid) must meet specific knowledge competencies. UMPI offers three pathways to receive this certification.

  1. The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program meet the requirements for Full MHRT/C certification upon completion of the BSW degree. 
  2. A blended Social Work/Psychology blended path requires nine courses to meet eight domain and competency areas. See below.*
  3. A Psychology path requires six courses in eight domain and competency areas. See below.**

Individuals wishing to receive MHRT/C certification must apply through the Office of Adult Mental Health Services at the Department of Health and Human Services.
