POS 317 - US Environmental Policy3 credits This course surveys federal, state, and local government policy towards the environment. First, it will introduce three themes: sustainable development, climate action, and environmental justice. It will then explain the policy-making process that shapes environmental policy, from conception to implementation. This includes explaining the role of the major institutional and political actors shaping environmental policy: the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, state and local governments, private industry, and environmental interest groups. Finally, it will survey policy approaches to addressing environmental problems
