Accreditation

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education, which is one of six nationally recognized regional accrediting associations and is the official accrediting agency for schools and colleges in the six New England states. Institutional membership in the Association indicates that the University of Maine at Presque Isle has been carefully evaluated and found to meet standards agreed upon by qualified educators. Accreditation of an institution of higher education by NECHE indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one that has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

The University is also an institutional member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

In addition, several academic programs within the University are accredited by specific agencies: viz., all Teacher preparatory programs by the Maine Department of Education, the Medical Laboratory Technology Associate Degree program by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), the Social Work program by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the Athletic Training Education program by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), and the Physical Therapist Assistant Program by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).★
